[Part 2] 040. 10 September 2010 Friday: Annual Ko-yon Games 고연전

Last week, I had dinner with Junho oppa and Junghyun unni and Junho oppa told me something interesting: that some seniors started saying 고연 ko-yon instead of 연고 yon-ko (which stands for ointment) at a pharmacy whenever they had to buy ointment. 고 ko is the short form of 고려대학교 Korea University while 연 yon is the short form/abbreviation of 연세대학교 Yonsei University. Students of Korea University believe that KU is first so you should always call the game Ko-yon Games instead of Yon-ko Games as students of Yonsei University call it. So Junho oppa said that those seniors refused to use the word yon-ko which also stands for "ointment" so went they went to the pharmacy, they said ko-yon.
It's amazing how the 2 universities have such a rivalry at a university level. I don't think NUS, SMU and NTU have such a similar degree of rivalry but I do remember the good old days in Raffles with us prefects leading the cheers and cheering in voices lower than the RI guys during interschool events against our archrivals, Hwa Chong and AC.
Today, I got to experience 고연전 but it was tiring and boring after awhile, even though I'm interested in baseball. Tiring because we started cheering when the players started warming up and we only stopped when the nearly 4 hour long game ended with a draw. As I didn't know the cheers well, I had to watch and copy the cheerleaders and buddies around me carefully. Basically, it was monkey see monkey do for me and I wasn't able to watch the game properly. Boring because I had no stamina to cheer throughout and things only got interesting towards the end when I decided to stone right at the top of the stairs near the section where the exchange students were seated at. It was wondrously windy there and I could watch the game in peace. My knee started hurting when I walked down the steps in the stadium earlier on and I didn't want to walk down anymore steps for the time being so I decided to be anti-social and just stood at the top of the stairs alone. Later on, Beatrice and Minqi walked past me so I joined them for awhile as they went to visit Kyungho. When I returned to take my position back at the top of the stairs, I met Alejandro there so we cheered together for awhile before he left and I met Kristian. So towards the end of the match, I had no idea what went on because I spent the time shouting to Kristian and nearly lost my voice. Not because of cheering, but because of my attempt to talk to him amidst the cheering.

After the match ended, I took the subway together with Emi, Jimin and a few other exchange students. I met Jeannie at Dongdaemun History Stadium where we transferred line and went to Miasamgori for an early dinner at Lotteria and grocery-shopping in E-mart. I left Jeannie in E-mart for awhile to buy my Chanel eyeshadow from Hyundai Department Store. Strangely enough, I actually bought it from Lotte Department Store but the signboard on the top of the building was Hyundai Department Store, if I remember correctly -.- Along my way back to E-mart, I decided to walk through the subway station to escape from the rain and I walked past Missha. I can't remember if I've mentioned this before but Missha has a 20% sale on the 10th of every month and since today's the 10th, the sale was on and I bought a gold shimmer eyeshadow for 3,200KRW (usual price 4,200KRW and I don't know how 3,200KRW can be 80% of 4,200KRW).
Jeannie was so bored while waiting for me that she took many pictures in the supermarket.

My purchases for today
It rained the whole of today and even now, as I'm typing, it's still raining. I really really really really hate rainy days. Please give me a blue sky and a cool breeze! Also, I don't think I can sleep tomorrow night because the whole Anam street will be reallllly noisy. Even now, at 12.53am when the 고연전 game has not concluded yet, I can hear people cheering and shouting -.- It'll be worse tomorrow when quite a number of eateries and drinking places 술집 along Anam will be providing free drinks and stuff for KU students, all lovingly paid for by the KU Alumni (which includes the current President of The Republic of Korea).
Earlier on, I received another package from Gmarket and also skyped with my mum. She kept bringing up the names of the different types of food that I like in Singapore in an attempt to make me miss Singapore...and then she realised that I actually don't like much stuff and that I still don't miss Singapore, as of now.
This is my most important purchase for today: a new pillow from E-mart for 9,800KRW. Look at the difference between what I was provided with and what I bought. I believe that this uber flat pillow is the culprit for my lack of sleep in Seoul so I foresee that I'll be able to sleep well and long tonight. Since I've decided not to go for 고연전 tomorrow, I can wake up late tomorrow and run quite a number of errands. Hooray! Tomorrow is run-errands day and Sunday is study day in school or somewhere in Anam.
My old and new pillows. By the way, the old pillow is quite long just that there's not much substance in it so I can actually shake everything down to one end, resulting in a small near-squarish pillow.
