[Part 1] 57. Writing competition

There was no class today because we had a writing competition instead.
Most of my classmates and I didn’t want to participate in it but it was compulsory.

There were 2 topics for 4급: 내가 닮고 싶은 사람 and another about the pros and cons of a handphone.
Obviously, I chose the former and wrote about my dad. We were actually given the topics in advanced but I only did some last minute preparing in the morning.

After submitting my essay to my teacher, we chit-chatted and I scored a date with her to a outlet store in Gimhae next month. I think we can be shopping buddies haha.

The results for the competition were released after lunch at around 2.30pm and my Mongolian classmate won the 1st prize :)

I wasn’t disappointed about my performance because I didn’t put much effort into it. But seeing so many students go up on stage to receive the different prizes made me realise that I haven’t been putting much effort into my Korean language study here. There’s way too much homework too, so much so that I don’t have much time to study on my own for TOPIK. But if others can make time to improve their competency, so can I and I have to change. One thing for sure is that I’ve forgotten all the basic words and honorific forms so I need to revise my basics. I can’t even remember how to say “brush teeth” in Korean!
I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned this before but it’s pretty stressful in my class too especially when my teacher asks us all if we know a particular word and before I can reply, everyone says that they know the meaning when I don’t. Almost everyone majored in Korean language for their Bachelors and some even worked in Korean companies for a few years before coming here. How can I compete against such classmates? :’( So demoralising.
I really need to sit down and come up with a study plan.
TOPIK #29 will be on 20th January next year and I only have 3 months to prepare for it.
At least, it’ll be over before my birthday. This year’s January TOPIK exam was on 29th January and I was worried that next year’s exam would be around the same time as well. So yay, I can spend my birthday in peace and not have to study :)

I need to complain about my room.
It’s autumn but I can’t take the heat thanks to the central heating system for the dormitory and the strategic placing of my table almost right below the heater.
I’m like in a furnace. It’s that hot.
I perspire more these days than I did during summer here.
I need an air-con, not a heater!

Empty gym because the Koreans were busy studying for their mid-terms

Hey clara, good luck for your TOPIK in January! I just had my TOPIK days ago, and I totally know how you felt. I completely underestimated TOPIK, and basically did nothing for it until like 2 months before the exam. It wasn't horrific or anything, but I know I could have done more preparations in advance (and feel better about it) Since you're taking Advanced, I can hardly imagine the difficulty>_< Finding time to sit down and study for TOPIK is really challenging for some reason; there's always other more fun things to do ^^;;;

Hopefully things go well for you, all the best!! ^^
