[Part 1] 017. 18 August 2010 Wednesday

This morning was the first time Jeannie and I woke up early because 어머님, her sister and I had a 10am appointment at the Bucheon branch of Dr. Lee's Aesthetic Clinic (미앤미 Mi&Mi). Jeannie and Taehun went along as well. We had to eat our breakfast in record time before rushing out to reach the clinic on time so I didn't get to fully enjoy the delicious kimchi fried rice that 어머님 made.
The clinic has a very chic interior design but I don't have any photos as I didn't bring my dslr along.
During the consultation with a director, she quoted me 80,000KRW for 5 sessions of IPL for upper lip hair removal and 85,000KRW for underarm hair removal. I heard 어머님 asking about treatments for the face so I pointed at the bumps on my nose and said that I wanted them cleared, on my nose only. Just for the nose alone, it costs 30,000KRW and for the whole face, 100,000KRW. I've no idea whether I'll have enough money to last me through the next 4 months at the rate I'm spending, so I decided to have the treatment done for my nose only, even though it's more worth it to get the full face treatment.

After filling up a form, I was immediately directed to a treatment room where In Hye-Kyung 인혜경, a manager 주임 attended to me. I had to sign a document (which was entirely in Korean and I probably only understood 10% of it) before the treatment was carried out. That's the thing about getting skincare treatments done in Korea, especially in a city outside Seoul. The language barrier, and my limited vocabulary bank. Everything's in Korean. I know it's dangerous and risky to sign a t&c document without fully reading and understanding it but I trust 어머님's recommendation in selecting that clinic and she herself, as well as her sister, also got IPL treatments done on the same day as me. So after having signed the document, I chatted with Hye-Kyung while she slathered some cooling stuff on my upper lip and underarm areas. She had been to Singapore before and told me about the places she had visited there. In the next 5 minutes, she performed the IPL treatments which only hurt a little at the underarm areas. It was that fast! Just 5 minutes! She gave me a piece of paper about the precautionary measures to take after undergoing IPL treatments (I haven't had the time to translate everything yet) before directing me to a washup area to rinse off my sunblock. I was also given a locker to store my belongings. Before long, another manager brought me to a room to have photos taken of my skin condition before bringing me to another treatment room.

The first thing she did was to slather some cotton pads soaked with toner on my nose. Later on, she removed them and together with another manager, the 2 of them prodded my nose a little and examined it from different angles so I was pretty sure they knew that I only want to have the bumps on my nose cleared. But later on, as the manager proceeded with the treatment, she worked on my whole face so I thought, maybe it's their idea of service, to let me try the whole treatment and if I like it, get it done again another time? Actually, when I pointed at my nose and told 어머님 that I wanted to have the bumps on my nose cleared, I thought that I would have some form of a laser treatment done but it turned out that I had a facial and brightening/whitening done. Obviously, the facial hurt and not everything on my nose was cleared :( The skin treatment also took a really looooooong time. I was on the treatment bed from 11am-1pm because my manager had to attend to other customers too so the greater part of my time there was spent waiting and I couldn't even sleep because I can't sleep in the day unless I'm in a vehicle (car/bus/train) :(
To make things worse, when I came out of the treatment room after everything was done, I was informed that I had to pay 265,000KRW instead of 195,000KRW. It was then that I discovered that they had done the full face treatment for me and I was to pay 100,000KRW for it. By then, 어머님, her sister and Taehun had left because their treatments took less than 15-20 minutes and they had to rush back for some matters so Jeannie was the only one with me. She had waited all the way, from 10am to 1pm. Thanks Jeannie! So basically, I didn't have a Korean friend to help me with the translations and I repeatedly told the counter staff that I only wanted to have the treatment for my nose which is 30,000KRW, not the whole face! They made a mistake and why is it that I have to pay 100,000KRW? After making numerous calls to confirm whether I had indeed wanted the nose treatment for 30,000KRW, they decided to charge me 60,000KRW for the whole face treatment. The initial cost was 130,000KRW but they're having a promotion now and it's 100,000KRW. But since they made a mistake and I only wanted a nose treatment, they charged me 30,000KRW for my nose and 30,000KRW for the rest of my face. I accepted it, even though Jeannie said that she wouldn't have accepted it. I actually wanted to have a full face treatment done but wasn't sure if I have enough money to last me during my entire trip so since they are offering me 60,000KRW for the full face because of their mistake, it's some form of a discount for me. Furthermore, I can't argue or negotiate well in Korean so I accepted the offer, paid up for my IPL treatments as well before leaving with a swollen face from the facial.
Lunch time
The 1st 3 of my Gmarket purchases also arrived :)
Can't wait to wear the sleeveless top with my brooch and a nice skirt!
We stayed home the whole day and I cleared up my backlog of entries :)
