[Part 2] 092. Jeju Day 4

Our final day in Jeju :( It was really relaxing in Jeju and I felt at peace there but my heart longed for Seoul. I couldn't wait to come back! Strange, isn't it? I should be missing home in Singapore but I actually missed Seoul and my puny room in Co-m Livingtel. Seoul has everything and I feel so at home here.
It was so hot yesterday night! I slept on the floor with Jeannie and Raus and it got so hot in the middle of the night that I had to remove the blanket. And I woke up with more mosquito bites again :(
Initially, we wanted to leave the pension by 8am but I knew that we would never make it out by then. Eventually, we left at 9am and called for 2 cabs. We should have waited inside the compound for the 2 cabs but Jeannie was afraid that the cabs wouldn't know where the pension was so we all walked out to the main road and within a few minutes, 2 cabs stopped in front of us. We thought that they were the cabs we called for so we got in but they weren't :( When the called cabs arrived at the pension and we weren't there, they were so angry that they vented their anger on the lady boss who was so pissed that she called Jeannie and scolded her, saying that we had ruined her reputation and that next time, no cabs would want to pick up passengers from her pension because it might just turn out to be a wasted trip. According to Jeannie, the lady boss was so fuming mad when she called that I half expected her to throw out our luggages onto the road outside the pension in a fit of anger. And I was fearful of returning to the pension in the evening to collect our luggages before leaving for the airport.
In retrospect, we should have kept the car for one more day. Without it, we had to take cabs to the Jeju City Bus Terminal to take bus no. 4 to Seongsan Harbour which was a good 1 hour 25 minutes ride. From the Harbour, we took a ferry which can also carry vehicles to Udo Island.
Before taking the bus to Seongsan Harbour, we had our lunch at an eatery in the bus terminal and the ajumma took soooooooooo long to cook our food! After placing our orders for 4 cheese fried rice and 1 kimbab and waiting for 15 minutes, she was still chopping up the ham for the fried rice behind the table. Jeannie actually walked over to her and asked if she needed help but of course, the ajumma refused. We had to wait ages for our food...I think she took more than half an hour to prepare 4 plates of cheese fried rice. And after she served us our cheese fried rice, she asked Kenneth if he could have ramen instead because she didn't have ingredients to make kimbab. Actually, I think she was just too tired to make the kimbab so she wanted to cook ramen instead. Life in Jeju...
The ajumma was chopping up the ham behind the table
Fed-up and hungry Jeannie
It was actually quite delicious, though a little bit salty.
If you're going to Udo Island and taking the bus from the Bus Terminal to Seongsan Harbour, check with the bus driver of bus no. 4 if it's Seongsan Harbour-bound because the 1st bus we wanted to board didn't go to Seongsan at all. The bus driver of the bus we took was so nice because when he arrived at Seongsan Harbour, he actually shouted out to all in the bus that we had to alight here if we wanted to go to Udo Island. Most of us were sleeping then and we nearly missed the stop, if not for him! From the bus stop, we had to walk for about 10-15 minutes before reaching the Ferry Terminal where we bought our tickets for the ferry to Udo Island (8,000KRW). Before you go to the counter to purchase your tickets, you have to fill up a form with your passport number and contact details. There was a guy quarreling with a Terminal staff and they were shouting so loudly that it got quite scary!
The ferry to Udo Island took only 15 minutes and we spent the time on the top deck where it was really windy and we had our biscuits.
There were ATVs and bicycles for rent near the harbour but I was secretly hoping that we wouldn't take them because I was in heels. Thank goodness we decided on a 1hr+ bus tour of the island which was better because we didn't know the place at all... like what and where the places of attraction were for us to ride to. It cost 5,000KRW per person and the bus driver was also the tour guide. It was scary when he drove with one hand on the steering wheel and the other holding the microphone.
Ok, I'll heed your advice.
Delicious nutty yoghurt for 3,000KRW. Love it!!!
After the tour, there was nothing else to do on the small island so we took the ferry back to Seongsan Harbour from which we took the bus back to the terminal. If you were to visit Udo Island, do take note that the last ferry leaves the island at 4.30pm!
With about 3 hours to spare before we had to go back to the pension to collect our belongings and proceed to the airport, we decided to go to Yongduam Rocks 용두암 before having dinner at an eatery nearby.
Smoking biscuits
The people at that table kept staring at us!
Again, I didn't dare to eat it.
Jeannie, Raus and Yuya went back to the pension to get our stuff while Kenneth and I took the cab to the airport. Surprisingly, the lady boss, according to Jeannie, wasn't angry by then so nothing dramatic happened, contrary to my expectation. We were at the airport quite early so we couldn't check in our luggages till half an hour later. Jeannie slept while we took turns shopping for chocolates and mandarin oranges. haha. I collected my shades from the JTO Duty Free Counter inside the Departure area but found some markings on one side :( Sadly, it's too late to do anything! I should have checked the condition of the new piece before making payment in the ICC :( Luckily it's not too visible!
We chose the last flight out of Jeju because we thought it would give us more time in Jeju. But now, I think we should have taken the 2nd last flight out because by the time we reached Gimpo Airport, we had missed the airport shuttle bus back to Anam from both the domestic and international terminals and ended up taking a cab. Actually, I think the cab driver lied to us. At 11.20pm, he said that there were no more buses or subway back and we were only left with taking a taxi. I'm pretty sure there are still buses or subway trains available at 11.20pm on a weekday! But since he charged us 60,000KRW, allowed 5 of us in his car (max. 4 people allowed in taxis and taxi drivers here are adamant about abiding by this regulation) and drove us back to Anam within 15 minutes, I think we paid good money!
So yes, back to "home" sweet "home"!!!
