✈ to Korea.
Not for a semester-long exchange but for 1 year of Korean language study in a university in Busan, followed by a 16-month MBA program in Yonsei University in Seoul.
I’ll be leaving Singapore on 29 August!
I’m not sure if I’ll be able to blog for every single day when I’m in Korea, given that this is a much longer stay and I’ve lost the stamina to blog frequently. But I’ll try my best :)
Till I leave for Korea, I’m blogging here: http://eunjinclara.blogspot.com

Wow! I'm so envious to death. Haha! But it's true! I'm addicted to anything Korean and it's my dream to study and live there someday. But it's kind of impossible for me to do that. :(
I've stumbled upon your blog a long time ago when I was searching for info regarding winter in Korea. We went there last January but only for 5 days. :(( I really enjoy checking out your entries ever since then. Hope you'll still post lots of your wonderful experiences there. :)
Anyway, congratulations on your graduation and good luck! ♥

Hey Clara! All the best for your 2.5 long journey to Korea! You have a great blog here. :) I actually started reading because your Korean buddy, Taekyu, mentioned it to me and gave me the blog address, since I'm currently in Korea now for my exchange program in snu. I got to know TK too in Singapore and he mentioned about you bringing them to some places in SG before, so actually I've heard of you since then but I haven't gotten round to writing you a comment until now! :)
It seems that you only have about two weeks left in SG before coming here. 2.5 years seems like a really long time. Your previous entries really brought out the mixed feelings that I think you've been feeling (I don't know, mixture of excitement and uncertainty as well, since you're going to be away from home for a long time). Hope your packing hasn't been too difficult! And I hope your journey here will be even more fantastic than your previous ones here. All the best! :)

Hello 유진,
Thank you for your well wishes!
I’m quite worried about the next 2.5 years actually... wonder how things will turn out. I’ve never been away from my family for so long before!
Well, it’s not impossible. You just need the opportunity to come along at the right time and all!
How was your holiday in Korea? I’m sure 5 days wasn’t enough for you :P
Hello Alice,
Thank you for your well wishes :)
Wow, I didn’t know that Taekyu knows about my blog :P
Packing is a real challenge. I don’t know how I’ll be able to pack everything and bring them with me!
Korean Air rejected my request for an increase in baggage allowance and I’m already shipping my winter wear there. Hopefully, I can squeeze everything else into my luggages!
Have fun and make the most out of your exchange life in SNU :)
Really? He said that you mentioned it to him before, so he asked me to search it up! :)
I am shipping my winter stuff over too. When are you shipping yours? I'm not too sure when winter will really come (or when i'll even need them), so I haven't told my parents when to ship them to me yet. I shipped my books over though when I first arrived last month. Korean Air is really strict about this :( I wasn't allowed to increase too. Seriously 23Kg is not enough even for holiday travelers ;;;
Thanks a lot! Will you be coming up to Seoul or settling straight in Busan?
Hmm, I don't think there are a lot of opportunities for an Architecture student like me in Korea. Haha! But yeah really I hope it's not impossible. :D Someday, I hope someday. XD
Yeah, 2 and a half years is long but don't worry, I'm sure it will turn out well for you. :) I believe in that! But anyways, I really wish you the best in your stay in Korea. Good luck in your studies!
YUP! It was tooooo short! :( I hope I could go back there for a vacation someday and prolly stay much longer. Haha!
Oh there is! I mean, there should be! I have a friend who’s studying architecture here in Korea and on the same program as me, just that she’s in an earlier batch.
Thank you :)
Haha ok then I did tell him after all :P Wanted to meet him when I was in Seoul last weekend but he wasn’t free.
My parents just shipped mine over last week and I think I’ll only receive my stuff next month. Hopefully, I’ll get them before the weather gets any colder! I hope you have already told your parents to ship over your items by now!
I’m now in Busan and will be here all the way till July next year. Will probably be in Seoul during my vacation next year.
Enjoy your exchange!
Hi Clara,
I came across your blog as I was researching on scholarships in Korea. I'm a Singaporean who'll be doing a six-month language course at Ewha from September and planning to apply to several graduate programs while in Korea. Have some questions that I hope you could help me with.
Are you on the Korean government scholarship for both the language course and the MBA program? Was it difficult to get the scholarship and admission to the MBA program? how competitive is it for Singaporeans? Did you apply for the scholarship through Yonsei or the Korean embassy in SG? Any other advice/tips you could share?
Thanks so much for your help!
Cheers,
Lynn
Hello Lynn,
Yup, I’m on the Korean government scholarship. But for the MBA program, I’m also on the business school’s scholarship since the Korean govt only sponsors up to 5,000,000KRW/semester for tuition fees. It was difficult getting the scholarship because NUS doesn’t rank us students but I was required to submit my ranking for my application and I actually got eliminated during the 2nd round because of that. Thankfully, the First Secretary at the Korean Embassy appealed on my behalf so here I am today. It also depends on competition as there are limited slots available for Singaporeans. As for the MBA program, I applied to Sung Kyun Kwan and Yonsei and I was accepted to both schools so I would say they’re pretty alright. I took my GMAT the year before applying too.
I applied through the Korean embassy because I think it’s a safer route than only applying to one university because the former option allows you to apply to 3 universities.
Advice/tips would be to check the terms and conditions and regulations of the scholarship program, follow instructions carefully and that should be all. Most importantly, is to have a passion for the Korean language and wanting to study in Korea :) All the best!
