I'm going to Korea AGAIN!

Yay! I've been offered a place in Korea University (my 1st choice) for the coming NUS AY10/11 Semester 1.

This means I'll be in Korea for the next half of this year :)

congrats! btw i thought you wanted yosei university more than korea university?

and, can i ask if NUS offer any immersion programs to Japan, something like yours to Korea?

Hello Denise, thanks! Initially, I wanted to go to Yonsei University more than Korea University after my immersion; but last semester, I made friends with the new batch of Korean exchange students and my closest exchange friends are from Korea University so it'll be much more fun when I'm in KU with them next semester. Can't wait for exchange :)
With regards to the immersion program, I'm not too sure about the Japanese language courses outline. But in NUS, there are 3 language preparation programs (LPP) for French, German and Korean to prepare students for exchange in countries using those languages so an immersion program will be under the LPP. We don't have a Japanese LPP but we do offer Japanese lessons!

Ohh I see! good luck! :D
so when you head to Korea, it's just a exchange ? or does it take in account of your current pursing degree?

Aiyo! sad :( no Japan immersion! Nvm, i'll look ard thanks!

So how much have you spend on these overseas trips to Korea? I'm guessing the damages is rather high :p

Yes, it'll be an exchange from August to December and I'll be studying my business modules there. The modules I take there can be mapped back to my NUS degree.
It depends on airfare, $1200 for sq and a stay of more than a month, another $1400 for the program and lodgings for the program stay, and about another $3000 for all other expenses for 6 weeks.

Hi Clara,

I was researching for my upcoming grad trip to Korea in May when I stumbled across your blog. So far, this is the best blog about student travel in Korea so far! Definitely has been a great help to me. Congratulations on getting to KU! Will be looking forward to reading your exchange experience in the next half of the year! :)

Hello Michelle, thank you :) have fun during your trip! May's a good month to go because it's spring and the weather will be cooling, unlike summer!

Hi again Clara. Don't know if you still remember me - I used to ask you a lot of questions about Korea a few months back to prepare myself for a week long trip to Korea. In fact, I just came back yesterday!

I thought I'd check out your blog again and tell you that I modeled my Korea trip based on your trip last year! My mates and I did a lot of things like driving in Jeju (despite zero knowledge of the Korean alphabets, we managed to work the GPS with the help of Avis' employee's minimal instructions), trying out jjimjilbang/live octopus in Busan, taking a KTX from Busan to Seoul, hanging out at Coffee Prince Hongdae, singing at Luxury Hongdae, clubbing at NB in Gangnam... I had a blast! and now I'm depressed... I had so much fun!

And now I envy you for going to Korea again! There are still so many things I wanna do and I'm already making plans for another trip sometime this or next year. I even thought of may be moving to and working in Korea but with my engineering degree and zero Korean-speaking skills, it will be pretty tough. Anyways, hope you will have fun later in the year.. I'll keep on stalking your blog for updates!

Yes, I remember you :) Receiving this comment really made my day, knowing that my blog entries about my trip have made a difference for you!

I'm so glad that your trip went well and you enjoyed yourself! Wow, I'm impressed that you could do so much even with no knowledge of the Korean language, especially the driving bit! I'm planning to go to Jeju again before my term starts and hopefully, I can rent a beetle convertible this time! We wanted to rent it last year but ended up with 5 persons for our trip which exceeded the max. capacity of 4 for the car. I'll be going with Jeannie and our 2 female Korean buddies from last semester so hopefully, it'll be a blast too!

Oh man...you tried the live octopus?!?!?! how was it? I don't think I'll ever dare to eat it! How was the jjimjilbang too? We spent more time in the cold room than the sauna. lol! Luxury hongdae is great right? How was clubbing at NB? Was it a pleasant experience? We didn't quite like it because it was too crowded when we were there. Haha...now it's my turn to ask you so many questions! I suffered from Korea-withdrawal symptoms too when I got back...I almost said kamsahamneeda to the waitresses back here.

If you'll be in Korea in the 2nd half of this year, let me know and maybe we can explore Seoul for a day or something! I have plans of working in Korea as well but yes, the language problem is one big issue! Even though I've been learning the language for at least 1.5 years, I still have a lot to learn!

Thank you :) I'm hoping to be able to update my blog everyday when I'm there but I'm afraid there'll be a backlog again. It got quite tiring trying to rush through and blog for every single day. Of course, now that i'm back in Singapore, it's nice to read through all my entries and re-live my entire journey again :) Do you have a blog of your trip? I wish to see your pictures too!

Hey Clara. Yeah, we do have our travel blog which never gets updated hahaha. We had so many things to do that by the time we got back to our hotel/apartment, we were too tired to blog... and it didn't help that my friend's laptop is one of those tiny ones that it put you off to even type anything. haha. So yes, a huge backlog, but we do plan to try to update that and I'll let you know when we've done that. But I'll tell you a bit of the journey...

We spent 2 days in Macau/Hong Kong first. We intended to stay 1 night each but ended up not really enjoying Hong Kong that much since we spent so much time in Macau. I tell you... it's the gambling addiction that held us back (I didn't lose too much, only about SGD200). We did cross the border to Zhuhai/China for 2 hours to check out a bit of the underground shopping place. Hong Kong was too quick... we reached the hotel at 6pm, strolled along the Kowloon night market and then had to leave the following day for our flight to Seoul early in the morning.

So, Seoul... we stayed one night in Seoul first before we leave for Jeju the following day. I had planned to go to Hongdae and hang out at Coffee Prince in the afternoon and sing at Luxury noraebang but we reached our hotel at about 5.30pm as traffic was pretty bad. So, there wasn't a lot of time and we needed to buy new clothes for the next few days. Did I tell you that... it's still very cold in Korea right now. Temperatures were probably in the 2 - 13 degrees then but it was the wind that was crazy. So we ended up shopping in Doota. I went to Doota 2 years ago in the early summer and I remember that place was great, only that some of the clothes are pretty pricey but of good quality. My friends who've never been to Seoul were amazed and also ended up confused with the so many things that were offered in Doota.

Anyways, I'll stop for now coz I don't want to overload you with my excitement. I'll write again sometime later today.

Hey Clara. Check out my facebook at http://www.facebook.com/fadhlullah.omarali for some of the pictures that my friends have tagged me. I haven't uploaded my pictures yet but will do that someday. Let me know if you can't look at the pictures.

clara 은진 said...

Hey Omarali! is that right? Or do I address you as Fadhlullah? :) I can't view the photos because I'm not a friend so I've added you!

f3rrollez said...

hahaha. No.. that's my dad's name. My friends call me Fadul for short. I didn't expect to have a quick response from you. Anyways, I hope you will get to see the pictures because I'm not too sure if you can as these are from my friends. There will be more to come as these only come from one person.

clara 은진 said...

Oops, sorry for the mistake! Hi Fadul :) Yeah, going to school in a while so for now, I'm still with my laptop. I can see your album on Seoul added last year but I can't see your tagged photos. Maybe it's the privacy settings for tagged photos! I didn't go to Everland last year! Definitely going this year for the wooden roller coaster ride!
